Class 8 - Spring Term

Class: Class 8 Year: 2023 - 2024

Spring i – Our curriculum theme this half term is “Wild weather and natural disasters”.  We will be exploring different types of weather including extreme weather conditions. 

In Maths, we will be looking at weight, capacity and temperature as well as continuing with our number work. 

In English, the pupils have chosen a story to read as a class – “Pinocchio”.  We will also read books from the reading scheme. 

The focus for our Science lessons is sound and, in RE, we will be looking at Hinduism. 

Our PE lessons this half term are on a Thursday morning.  During these lessons, we will be developing ball skills, playing team games and working towards playing Tee Ball. 

We will continue to access shopping visits and visits to the recycling centre at Longridge.  We have also planned five swimming sessions for the Spring term. 

Spring ii - Our curriculum theme for the second half of the Spring term is ‘The World at War’.  In English lessons, we will read “The Lion and the Unicorn” by Shirley Hughes – a story about a boy evacuated to the countryside during the second world war.

We will celebrate World Book Day - some of the pupils are looking forward to dressing up as their favourite characters!

In Maths, we will be learning about money – recognising and combining coins.  Pupils will continue to access weekly visits to Aldi supermarket to practice using money during a community activity.

The focus for our Science lessons this half term will be animals.  We will match animals to their young and look at grouping and describing animals.

In PE, we will continue with our games activities and play Tee Ball.

The pupils will continue to work towards their ASDAN qualification looking at different

jobs that people do around school.

In Food Technology, pupils will choose and prepare snack meals e.g. pizza, pasta, spaghetti and beans on toast.
