Communicating with school
Day to day communication with school
Pupils are supplied with a home/school diary or 'chat book' which should be used by home and school for day-to-day communication. Phone calls, emails, video calling, and our online learning platform 'Google Classroom' can also be used to communicate with your child's class teacher. If you have any concerns regarding your child, please contact school. If you ring during the school day you may not be able to speak directly with your child’s teacher but you can leave a message, request they ring you after school has finished or arrange a convenient time to talk.
We may text out to parents occasionally so we ask that you keep your contact details up to date with the school office and make sure you have registered for Arbor.
Arbor is our new communication tool for parents to receive texts and updates from school and to book parents evening appointments. To be able to access this you will need to provide school with an email and once your child has started you will get login (via your email) with instructions on how to create an account. You are able to download the Arbor app for free on your phone and receive texts from us.
Review meetings
We hold an interim meeting approx 6-8 weeks after a pupil starts - excluding nursery/reception pupils. This is an informal meeting, usually involving parents, class teacher and Headteacher or Assistant Headteacher. This is held to discuss how the pupil has settled in and to set some interim targets for them to work towards.
Educational review meetings are held annually (except for reception and nursery pupils who have 2 per year). These meetings are to discuss your child’s progress over the previous 12 months and their school targets and outcomes listed in their EHCP (Education, Health and Care Plan). We will also ask for any health and social care updates if relevant to your child. It is your opportunity to discuss any concerns you may have.
We will invite any professionals involved with your child to attend.
Parents evenings
We hold 2 parents evenings a year (Autumn and Summer term). Appointments are made online through school spider. They are held from 4-7pm and appointments are 20 minutes each. Your child’s termly PLP (personal learning plan) targets will be discussed and it is your opportunity to speak to the class teacher about your child’s progress and PLP targets or raise any concerns.
Visiting the school site
The school is situated on a gated site and all visitors must report to reception to sign in. Occasionally we are unable to answer the gate intercom on the first try, please be patient and try again. Do not try to open the gates manually; they will be opened for you when it is safe to do so.
The school office is manned from 8:30am to 4:30pm during term time, and there is an answerphone available outside of these times.
In the interestes of child protection we ask that mobile phones are left in vehicles when visiting the school.
