School and College councillors out and about in the community
On Thursday the 2nd of December the School and college councillors took a trip to Gardening Works in Longridge. They have been really kind to donate some wood to school for our councillors to produce some bird boxes. The school and college council will then sell them to raise money for some new playground equipment and also donate a percentage to the RSPB. The councillors thought it would be beneficial for them to visit the workshop and find out where the wood had come from.
We met a lovely lady called Julie who showed us the workshop and explained all the different stages of the production line, we looked at the machinery and storage, she even showed us how the pieces of wood joined together like a jigsaw puzzle, it was really interesting.
After our tour we presented Julie with our very first birdbox to say thank you for supporting our little project. She gave us lots more wood and even a bug hotel and information books too. We were so grateful and it shows how the local community can work together for the greater good. Afterwards we went to warm up at the local café Tayah’s and enjoyed a warm drink and a huge piece of cake!
The birdboxes are currently in production and will be up for sale shortly on the school website, Facebook, twitter and from the school office so keep a look out and get your orders in!
